Outstanding.

Every once in a while I come across something that really catched my eye or sticks with me. I would say the last thing that did that for me was 'Babel' -- at least before this.

While a short animation may not carry the length of a feature film, it in no way loses any of its impact as a result. This is a beautiful animation, beautifully told and beautifully executed. I do not understand people's complaints -- I am an artist myself (traditional artist), and it's always easy for people to assume the role of 'critic' and point out the smallest detail. While they are, in a sense, helping you become a better artist, one must assume the role of 'artist' as well and understand what went into creating the work. It is hard work, people, and I guarantee 99% of you cannot make something as REMOTELY profound or well executed.

The drawings ('graphics') were excellent, with a smooth and clean look. There is no shame in using motion tween, it does not detract from the work in the least. The sound is amazing as well, and fits well. My only complaint about it is that there could be a slightly larger mix of music, but the three tracks chosen were spot-on, nonetheless. The voice acting was crisp and well done. The music really elucidated what the woman was feeling. The 'hand-held' camera also added amazingly well to the mix, creating a relaxed and personal insight into this world that you created. Violence, humor, and interactivity are self-explanatory.

Overall, a great piece of work, a great flash animation, and a great story. This has definitely stuck with me, and is my "favorite" flash as of right now :)

Keep up the good work, and don't get discouraged by the few 'critics' out there ;)

Made me feel good :)

You know, it's good to settle down and watch something like this on Newgrounds. So often do I find myself sifting through garbage and crude humor -- I mean it's funny to a certain degree, but it just bores you after a while.

Something like this, on the other hand, helps you settle down and simply relax: the calm and soft music perfectly complemented the animation, and although it could've been a bit better quality, I understand the constraints of file size, etc. The visuals were clean and expressive, I liked the integration of motion blur and focus. This shows that while it utilizes the modern Flash techniques, it does not detract from the artist's style, and retains that light and cheerful nature.

I can relate to this (not exactly, of course), and it always brightens your day to find out that this kind of thing happens all over the world, whether it be Europe (where I suspect this happened), or Asia. It's simply a nice reminder of what relationships and people have to offer.

Not to ramble on, good job on your animation. Winning the contest does not matter -- you put time and effort into this, and it is appreciated, at least by me. Continue making these sort of things, or anything for that matter -- I can tell you're a talented fellow. Just realize that you've probably made a couple people's days just that much better :)

Very interesting.

I love learning about space, time, and the theory of relativity. This is a good "in a nutshell" explanation of Einstein's theory, and hopefully it'll spark someone else's interest in the subject as well.

I think that making a "next" and "back" button would be more appropriate, it would allow people to move back and forth at their own leisure and allow them to learn at their own pace. I think that the time intervals were pretty good between each paragraph, but it does rush things in a way.

Apart from that minor gripe, good job :)

...deep and inspiring.... psych....

That was just fucked up.

Genius.

I'll give you my highest rating -- a 9.

Bad

1. You can't lip-sync.

2. You can't dance if your life depended on it.

3. You don't have to make yourself look fat, your ugliness makes up for it.

4. The other one is just better; yours is not funny.

Don't waste your time and try to cry out against something that you'll never match.

Raises the bar is the perfect description.

Adam Phillips is an innovator, plain and simple.

While other people sit at their computers desperately trying to come up with a Flash animation that will sparkle on the front page, Adam reinvents the way Flash animation should be done.

Because Adam brings his best skills 100% of the time, I don't think he realizes that he decimates any other Flash movie out there right now. The scripted camera for instance, is amazing. All who don't adopt it will quickly be left in the dust once again.

I'm an extremely tough reviewer, so the only thing that I would like to see more of in your work is some more ambient music/sound effects. The sound/music already implemented is top-notch, I just think you should fill in the scenes with "holes" with more immersive sound, such as tree branches cracking, a slight breeze, et cetera. Don't take it personally, I only want to see the ultimate Flash come out of your skill, and I want to help perfect it.

9/10

I totally agree with you.. it was the file-size I was keeping my eye on though. Thanks for the 9

You have potential.

Apart from everyone blamming this entry, I'd actually like to give a constructive review rather than bashing it without giving you the reason why.

I write "You have potential" because you do - the music MOSTLY is in sync with the music, I can tell that that must've taken some time to do, with all of the bass and drum snares shown in the animation with flashes and whatnot.

But the problem with this Flash is that you only use 2 animations - the rotating gear and the transforming blobs. Now, there is no variety here, nothing happening, so people will get bored as soon as they realize this and immediately blam it. The backgrounds are nice in terms of drawings, but again, there are like 3 different backgrounds. No variety here, so I think that this is a rather boring movie.

Get some variety in there, and put more work into creating other things in Flash, I can tell that you know how things in the program work so that's why "You have potential".

But hey - at least you won an award even though it was Turd of the Week ;P

Different.

I can see that a lot of time was put into this, and I do take that into consideration. This movie has a very different style and feel to it, I have never really seen animation/shading like this before, so I'll give it high scores in both style and graphics. I especially like the blend on 3D and Flash animation.

The concept was nice, it was different and refreshing, making it a memorable experience. I liked the fact that it had both a light and a dark side to it, kind of like an anime (which I think influenced this movie). The sound I also particularly liked, it gave it both drama and substance.

So all in all, I'll give this movie an over-all grade of 8. The reason I didn't give it anything higher is because I know you can refine all the fine details of this movie and create and even better one (I found the actual facial drawings a little sloppy to bitch about something). Very good and I'll look foward to your other movies in the future.

Delicious

Absolutely mind bending. The best flash/music on this site... A creatively sumptuous delight.
